A former substitute teacher for the Northwest School District no
longer faces charges in connection with allegations she had sex with a
16-year-old male student.
Jefferson County prosecutors this week dismissed charges of statutory
sodomy and statutory rape against the former teacher, Amanda Miner,
28, of House Springs. Prosecutors cited inconsistencies in information
provided by witnesses in the case and gave no further information
about dropping the charges.
Miner had been charged in November after the teenager told another
teacher about the relationship and district officials contacted
police, Jefferson County sheriff's detectives said.
Authorities believe Miner met the teenager in her neighborhood, not as
a result of her employment at Northwest Valley Middle School.
Miner had worked for the school district since 2004 and was removed
from the substitute list last Nov. 2 for unrelated performance issues,
said Superintendent Paul Ziegler.
The possibility of
refiling the charges remains, authorities said.

- A substitute teacher in Jefferson
County could go to prison if convicted of engaging in sexual activity
with a student.
Amanda Miner, 28, of House Springs,
is charged with one count each of statutory sodomy and statutory rape.
Miner worked as substitute teacher
at the Northwest R-1 School District. The male high school student,
16, alleged he had sex with Miner on three occasions at her home
earlier this fall. He said Miner invited him over to play video games,
and that the two later would have sex.
Miner was not the boy's teacher,
school officials said. They believe the two met outside school
grounds. "Any time we have someone that's not going to protect our
students or certainly taking advantage or doing things inappropriate,
that's heart-wrenching,"
Northwest R-1 Superintendent Dr.
Paul Ziegler said Tuesday. Miner worked with the district since 2004.
Northwest R-1 recently dismissed her on unrelated performance issues
before the case came to light.
Miner passed both background checks
in 2004 and 2006, Ziegler said.
Miner is out of jail on $25,000
bond.
