Celeste Adamski, a former Kearny High School teacher who pled guilty to having sex with her 17-year-old student, is sentenced today.

The former Kearny High School teacher who pled guilty to having sex with one of her 17-year-old students was sentenced to two years probation today.

Celeste Adamski, 27, will also have to perform 50 hours of community service and pay $155 in fines, said Hudson County Deputy First Assistant Prosecutor Debra Simon. Adamski's teaching license will be revoked and she will be ineligible for public employment, Simon added.

Adamski pled guilty to one count of third-degree official misconduct on Oct. 11 and she admitted in court to having sex with a male student on Jan. 24 in a vehicle in Lyndhurst.

At the sentencing yesterday, her attorney, John Young, said that Adamski was on medication for a psychiatric problem when she had sex with the student. However, Young said in court, that would not present a defense for her actions.

Young said after the sentencing that the confidentiality of the pre-sentence report and state privacy laws prohibit him from disclosing the condition or the medication.

Adamski declined to comment.

Adamski's husband, John Adamski, a Kearny High School teacher, watched solemnly as she appeared before state Superior Court Judge Peter Vazquez, sitting in Jersey City.

Adamski seemed tense but composed, first resting balled fists on the table in front of her, then clasping her hands, and finally clutching her right elbow with her left hand, draping an arm across her stomach.

Adamski is pregnant with her second child by her husband, said Young, who added that the baby is due in June.

While serving her probation, Adamski will be a "stay-at-home mom" for her two-year-old son, and she will continue to undergo psychiatric therapy and counseling, Young said.

"She's happy to be able to put this behind her," Young said after the sentencing. "She's prepared to get on with the rest of her life."
