Former teacher sentenced for relations with student

A former Emery County junior high teacher has been sentenced to 90 days home confinement for having sex with a 15-year-old student.

Brandy Yates, 30, of Ferron, had earlier pleaded no contest to third-degree felony attempted forcible sexual abuse with the victim, a male student at San Rafael Junior High School, according to court records.

During a Tuesday sentencing, 7th District Judge Bruce Halliday also placed Yates on three years of probation, fined her $1,500 and ordered sex-offender therapy.

Yates must also add her name to the state's sex-offender registry.
