Third teacher, 29, at School for Deaf charged in sex case; Baton Rouge, LA

Another teacher at the Louisiana School for the Deaf has been accused of maintaining an improper relationship with a 16-year-old female student.

Amanda Elizabeth Key, 29, was booked early Friday into Parish Prison on a count of indecent behavior with a juvenile, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

Last week, the mother of the 16-year-old girl discovered her daughter was communicating via e-mail and text messages with Key and at least two others connected to the school, Christopher John Watson, 38, and Nathan Daniel Boyes, 26.

Key, of 235 Cloud Drive, sent the 16-year-old student naked pictures of herself via e-mail, McKneely said.

Key and the girl had been corresponding between May and Nov. 9, McKneely said.

A message left at Key’s home Friday was not returned. No one from the school was available for comment.

Boyes was arrested Nov. 9 and Watson was arrested Wednesday. Both men are deaf and each was booked into Parish Prison on a count of indecent behavior with a juvenile, booking documents say.

Watson was a teacher at the School for the Deaf until the end of last school year, the school’s interim director, Kenny David, said Thursday. Boyes is a physical education teacher at the school who was placed on administrative leave after his arrest, David said.

Both Boyes and Watson are accused of sending the unnamed girl — a day student at the school — sexually explicit e-mails and text messages, affidavits say.

The investigation is ongoing, McKneely said.
