Teacher charged in student rape

GOUVERNEUR (NY) — A 28-year-old teacher was charged with having sex with two underage students.

April E. Siegler, a first-year math teacher at Gouverneur High School, turned herself in to police Friday morning. She pleaded not guilty before Village Justice Evelyn J. Horton to third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy, both felonies.

Police said Siegler had sex with a 16-year-old student in March in her Gouverneur home, 100 miles northeast of Syracuse, and had deviant sex with another 16-year-old at her home around Thanksgiving.
