WOODSTOCK, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) – Fulton County school employee,
32-year-old Amy Syrinek-Ross, was arrested after police said she
attacked a 10-year-old child in a public bathroom.
Investigators said the incident happened at a Woodstock bowling alley
where the child was attending a birthday party.
"According to the child, she went in to check her hair. The woman came
out of the stall and approached her talking about how cute and pretty
she was. The woman asked if [the child] needed help applying stick on
tattoo and the child told the woman no; she didn't need her help,"
said Detective Paul Brown.
Police said Syrinek-Ross grabbed the child's arms and started going
through her pockets.
"An adult witness walked into the restroom; observed the woman's hands
in the child's skirt pocket," said Detective Brown.
"I had to physically take my hands and put them on the lady and pull
her hands out of the little girl's pockets. I asked if the little girl
was OK and she said no, no I'm not. She was very stunned. The lady was
like, 'I'm a teacher, I'm a teacher, its OK'," said the witness.
A spokesperson for Fulton County Public Schools said Syrinek-Ross is a
school counselor at Woodland Charter Elementary School. The
spokesperson said Syrinek-Ross was employed as of Friday, but wouldn't
comment further.
"This is very odd behavior for somebody who works with kids everyday,"
said Detective Brown.
Police said Syrinek-Ross turned herself in to police Sunday morning
after being charged with simple battery last week.
Syrinek-Ross posted bond but could not be reached for comment.
Police said they suspect Syrinek-Ross was intoxicated at the bowling
alley. Investigators said Syrinek-Ross admitted to going through the
child's pockets, but did not say why.
